CAMIGUIN SEES MAJOR RISE IN TOURISM
Camiguin Island in Northern Mindanao has now been included among the top major tourist destinations in the Philippines. The island saw a major increase in the number of tourists from January to March this year, the regional tourism office reported Thursday.
Data gathered from the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Northern Mindanao showed that at least 45,233 domestic and foreign tourists visited Camiguin Island in the first quarter of 2010, which is 21% higher than the 37,766 tourist arrivals in the same period last year.
Of the number, 43,298 tourists were domestic from different areas of the country while 1,935 tourists were foreigners.
We expect the figure to go even higher by years end, said Northern Mindanao DOT Regional Director Catalino Chan. read more>>>
